Heanor Festival Week started with a bang on Monday with a fun day in the town centre.
The May Day event, which was organised by Heanor and Loscoe Town Council, saw kids rides, live entertainment, market stalls and refreshments packed into the Market Place.
Visitors also had the chance to step back to Old Heanor in an exhibition organised by the Heanor Festival Committee in The Arts and Heritage Centre on Wilmot Street.
Committee member Clive Booth said: "Our part of the day was very successful. We doubled the amount of people we had through the door last year."
The event also featured the fourth annual Teddies' Leap of Faith from the tower of St. Lawrences' Church. More than 200 people made the trip up the tower with around 90 teddies taking the plunge down the tower.
The next event in the week-long festival will be the Cycle 4 Supper on Thursday evening. It begins at 5.45 at Shipley Lane Country Park Visitors Centre on Slack Lane.
