A JUNIOR school that was in special measures four years ago is back on top after being given a top Ofsted report by Goverment inspectors who visited last month.
Parents of pupils at Langley Mill Junior School on Baily Brook Drive were furious when the school was put into special measures and ordered to improve.

The school's new headteacher Linda Burgess, who took over in January 2008, is delighted that the school was given a sparkling report as a result of its last inspection, with some areas marked as 'outstanding'.

Other areas have been recognised as satisfactory and rapidly improving.
Linda Burgess, said: "We are justifiably proud of our school improvements and the positive attitude of the pupils and their parents. We have worked really hard to improve the learning experiences for the children at our school, and it is really good to have this recognised by the Ofsted team.

"The staff, Governors and pupils are delighted with the report as it recognises the hard work that has been put into place over the last two years.

"Pupils learning and progress is now judged to be "Good", and the capacity to sustain the high levels of progress is also "Good".

In their report Government inspectors said that the school was rapidly improving, and staff were keen for all the pupils to do well.

It said the pupils enjoyed going to school and were well behaved and enthusiastic about all the things they do in school.

They felt that the pupils were all proud of Langley Mill Juniors, and recognised that it is now "better than it was in the past".

The effectiveness of care, guidance and support given to pupils was judged to be outstanding.
