A disabled former employee from the now closed Pinxton Remploy factory has found work in a Derbyshire Hotel.
Partially sighted Sally Booth, 43, from Selston, worked at the Pinxton site, which made knitwear, as a receptionist for 21 years until it closed last year as part of nationwide cuts.

Remploy, a government agency, now operates as an employment age
ncy helping disabled people find jobs.

Sally now works in a similar role at the Derbyshire Hotel in South Normanton and has embraced her new full time role winning an associate of the month award.

Sally said: "I was thrilled just to have been nominated along with my colleagues. Then I discovered I'd won and was really pleased. It's a great honour to have received it so soon after starting work at the hotel.

"It may be more difficult for some people, depending on their disability, but Remploy gives you the full support to make that step. Whether you are disabled or not, if you've been in the same job for a long time it's good to try something new.

"Although I spent 21 happy years with Remploy, it was really the end of an era and I am thoroughly enjoying my new job. It's given me a new lease of life."

Reception manager Richard Christie said: "Sally is an excellent addition to the team and has settled into her role very well. She did well to win the award for the back of house staff and I think she is a strong contender for Associate of the Year."

The government announced last year many of the Remploy factories, including the one in Pinxton, were to close and the group would focus more on finding disabled people work in every day companies.

The old Remploy factory on Plymouth Avenue at Pinxton remains unoccupied and is currently available to lease from Morgan and Co Chartered Surveyors either as a full unit or two separate ones.
