Papers collection

One hundred years of history is now accessible from the comfort of your own computer thanks to Derbyshire County Council's British Library's 19th Century newspaper collection.
The database gives free access to nearly 50 newspapers and includes national and regional newspapers from around the country, as well as those from the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands.
It includes the Derby Mercury, the nearest thing to a county newspaper the area had. Although published in Derby the paper was sold as far north as Sheffield.
People can access the website free of charge using your council library card to log on.
