RIPLEY Music Festival was a major success last week, as it attracted more visitors to the town than organisers could have hoped for.
Organisers estimated more than 2,000 people were entertained by the festival over the weekend with performances in Oxford Street, The Market Place and Crossley Park.

The week-long festival started on Monday, July 14 with performances by unsigned indie rock groups at The Monkey Run, on Nottingham Road, and finished off with a showcase for original unsigned bands in Ripley Market Place on Sunday, July 20.

All types of music were given a stage throughout the week, from classical choirs and violin and piano duets to big brass band music at the Lockwood's Summer Prom on Saturday, July 19, taking place in Crossley Park.

Mick Wilson, one of the organisers of Ripley Music Festival, said: "I'm still trying to get some sleep.

"We've had two 14-hour-long days. I've really enjoyed it this year though.

"The music has been absolutely fantastic across the board and the outdoor festival on Saturday was a spectacular success.

"It's spurred us on for next year's festival. It'll be as big, if not bigger, we're starting planning from now."
