The paddling pool in Heanor Memorial Park is set for a much needed refurbishment thanks to a £250,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
Money will also be spent on a new playground in Alfreton Park and new equipment for the Crays Hill recreation ground, at Swanwick.

Cllr Jack Brown, Amber Valley Borough Council member for Cleaner, Greener and Safer, said: "Our aim is that all children living, visiting or going to school in Amber Valley should have access to a variety of safe and stimulating play environments.

"We're delighted to receive this award from the Big Lottery Fund, and intend to use the funding to provide a first-class play facilities."

Deborah Allen, chair of the newly formed Friends of Heanor Memorial Park, said: "This is good news. I played in that pool as a small child and my children played in there when they were young as well.

"It was refurbished quite some years ago, more than ten years certainly, and it has not been the same since."
