A SOUTH Normanton couple have been given a suspended jail sentence for causing suffering to their pet dog.
Everette Benford, 64, and Deboreh Benford, 50, were given a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court, sitting at Derby, in a case brought by the RSPCA.

The couple, of Union Street, had pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to their dog, Paws, at an earlier hearing.

To read more about the case, see the Ripley and Heanor News, out tomorrow (Thursday January 28).

This is disgusting that this scum should only have got a suspended sentence for causing this torture to this poor dog. If they weren't sent to prison they should at least have had a huge fine and community service. With this paltry sentence there is no deterrent to them doing it again.

I agree. There is no excuse for this sort of neglect.

I agree totally! Unfortunately though, as has been shown by the English judicial system before, sometimes sentences are just ridiculous. I'm sure you have seen cases before where drink drivers have only been given 6 years or something pathetic like that. Its about time cases were taken more seriously.
