A Ripley man is to undertake a bizarre challenge in the name of charity in the run up to Christmas.
Pete Seargent, a primary school deputy head teacher, has decided to take part in an extreme ironing challenge suspended 2000 feet up in the air in a hang glider.
Pete had the idea when he was looking for ways to raise money for adventure playground
equipment for his school in Tideswell.
Pete said: "Extreme ironing is a relatively new sport, the idea is that people take an ordinary domestic iron and ironing board and iron clothes in extreme places.
"I am led to believe that this is the first time it has been attempted by someone suspended from a hang glider."
The fundraising flight will take place at the Airways-Airsports airfield at Darley Moor Between Ashbourne and Derby under the watchful eye of chief flying instructor, Chris Dawes and with three times world champion hang glider pilot, Judy Leden MBE.
Judy said: "Pete came to the airfield to take a tandem hang glider flight a member of his family bought him last Christmas. When he realised the potential of our set up at the airfield he approached us for help with this charity challenge and we were delighted to assist."
Anyone wishing to sponsor Pete can log on to www.airways-airsports.com where you can find contact details to make a pledge and directions to the airfield where the flight will take place on Saturday November 15 at 1pm.
