A Smalley resident celebrated his 100th birthday with family and friends at a nursing home in the village earlier this week.
George Flint reached the milestone on Tuesday, June 30, and received the traditional card from The Queen to mark the occasion.

A keen sportsman in his day, George celebrated with a party at the Kidsley Grange Nursing Home, where he now lives.

His close family and the other residents joined in with the festivities.

Rachel Western, from the nursing home, said: "George has been with us since 2005.

"He is really settled and very happy here.

"He enjoys his food and is a very pleasant gentleman.

"He often talks to his friends and the staff about his cricketing days. He was a very keen cricketer."
