Friends and family of a Ripley soldier killed in Afghanistan got together at the weekend to raise money in his name.
Staff and locals at the Railway Inn, in Peasehill organised a three-day fundraiser to buy money for benches at the Crich Memorial for the Sherwood Foresters, the regiment which Drummer Thomas Wright belonged to.

Events included a barbeque, live music, stalls and a bouncy castle. More than £1,200 was raised overall.

Julie Paulson, manager at the Railway Inn, said the event was a great success. She said: "It was a lovely weekend, everyone gave really generously and we've raised more than we set out to.

We'll have enough to buy four benches for the memorial."
