A man who died after he was found unconscious near a canal in Langley Mill had been involved in a car chase with police shortly before, it has been revealed.
Carl Poole, 34, was chased after police in his red Peugeot 406 at around 5.40pm last Tuesday. It has not been revealed why they were chasing him.
The Peugeot stopped near the roundabout Mr Poole, of Alfreton, got out of the car. Police will not re
veal what happened at this stage because the incident is under investigation, but said a short time later they found him unconscious near the canal.
He was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and died at around 7.20pm. Mr Poole's family have been informed.
The area was cordoned off and a search team dived into the canal and searched the surrounding area throughout the night on Tuesday and most of the day on Wednesday.
Forensic officers attended the scene and officers from the Independent Police Complaints Commission were called out and have launched an investigation.
A post-mortem examination was carried out on Wednesday by a Home Office pathologist to determine how he died.
