Safer Neighbourhood officers in Langley Mill are encouraging people to become involved in the area's Canal Boat Watch.
The scheme, which has been running successfully in other parts of Erewash, has recently been launched at the Langley Mill boatyard to help users protect their property and their boats.

PCSO Claire Wikeley said: "Underage drinking and anti-social behaviour beside the canal is one of our recent priority problems as this is something that can become an issue during the summer months.

"Officers from British Waterways will be patrolling the area and looking for people drinking alcohol, causing a nuisance or involved in any form of waterway violation.

"The more people who join the watch, the more successful it will be in deterring crime and making the Langley Mill boatyard an even safer and more pleasant place to visit."

Members of the watch will receive a pack containing information on boat security and safety, details of their local Safer Neighbourhood team.
