A 35-year-old from Eastwood has been prosecuted for illegally claiming nearly in benefits £4,000.

Lisa Carter did not tell the council she had moved in with her partner and carried on claiming housing benefit, council tax benefit and job seekers allowance.

She received £932.03 job seekers allowance and £2,970.83 in housing and council tax benefit.

Ms Carter was sentenced to an 18 month Conditional Discharge. She was ordered to pay the sum of £100 towards prosecution costs.

She entered guilty pleas to both offences at a hearing on February 20. But due to the seriousness of the offence and the defendant’s previous convictions, the matter was adjourned for a full probation report and for sentencing earlier this month.
