A Ripley amateur artist has been named Wildlife Artist of the Year after winning a competititon supported by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
Richard Childs, of Lyncroft Avenue, beat more than 500 professional and amateur entries to scoop the top prize of £10,000 with 'The Hope of Sepilok,' a picture of an orang-utan in coloured pencils.
He spent 65 hours on the piece and said: "I'm hoping this will open a few doors with me and I may be able to give up the day job. It's all just like a fairytale."
