Step back in time at show

The audience will be invited to step to the era of black and white films and the Keystone Kops at latest theatre production in Marlpool.

They will be transported to the days of silent films in a show that promises bathing beauties, pies-in-the-face and slapstick comedy.

Mack and Mabel will be performed by Marlpool United Reformed Church Theatre Company.

Spanning the years 1911 through 1928, Mack and Mabel is the true story of the ill-fated love affair between Mack Sennett - founder of the Keystone Kops and The Mack Sennett Bathing Beauties – and Mabel Normand, the woman he transformed into a star of the silent screen. 
Simon Owen, from Heanor, and Korina Steed, from Marlpool, appear in the lead roles.

Theatre-goers of all ages are sure to enjoy the music written by Jerry Herman, whose many musicals, including such blockbusters as Hello Dolly! and Mame, have graced the Broadway stage for decades.

Songs in Mack and Mabel include ‘Look what happened to Mabel’, ‘Big Time’ and ‘I won’t send roses’.

The crew is led by producer Duncan Smith with musical direction by Alison Bailey and choreography by Lisa Mills.

Members of the theatre company range in age from six to 85 and has been performing together for more tan 25 years.

This unique Jerry Herman musical will be presented from Tuesday through Saturday, October 16 to October 20 starting at at 7.15pm.
