Bitesized ballet comes to town
Birmingham Royal Ballet's production of Pineapple Poll.
Birmingham Royal Ballet, one of the most revered companies in the country, is coming to Buxton Opera House with a programme of excerpts from some of the most famous ballet classics, on May 15 and 16.
Lyric Pieces is an exciting new work from award-winning American choreographer Jessica Lang. Set to piano music by Norwegian romantic Edvard Grieg, this is her first ballet for a major European company, on its world premiere tour.
What might a classic cartoon look like if brought to life on stage? Danced to a medley of foot-tapping favorites from Gilbert & Sullivan and the comic choreographic touch of John Cranko, Pineapple Poll is your opportunity to find out.
When the dashing Captain Belaye arrives in town, the female population swoons. Chief among them is Poll. While half-heartedly dodging the attentions of Jasper, she finds herself leading a band of desperate, love-lorn ladies, all seeking the attentions of the admirable officer.
Following the success of the excerpts during their 2011 tour, Birmingham Royal Ballet presents two more highlights from some of our best-loved ballets in Bitesize Ballets.
The Clog Dance and Lily of Laguna pas de deux from David Bintley’s Hobson’s Choice is a funny and warming peek into the lives of two unlikely lovers. The programme finishes with the stunning, virtuoso pas de deux from Marius Petipa’s great classic, Don Quixote.
Tickets are priced from £16.50 to £33.50. Call the box office on 0845 127 2190.
