Fleet Arts music tour set for grand finale
A SERIES of gigs being held to celebrate the tenth anniversary of a Belper music project is set to reach a climactic finale on Sunday.
Fleet Arts’ Turn it Up project has been staging concerts across the county through March and April to celebrate a decade of helping thousands of young people.
An eight-venue tour, which has featured everything from rock to folk, hip-hop and acoustic music reaches its conclusion on Sunday with a concert by the acclaimed local Mills and Chimneys Folk collective.
The group, who write and perform songs inspired by the Derbyshire landscape and its many traditions - are set to appear at The Fleet Arts Centre, Belper.
Among its members are some of Derbyshire’s best up and coming folk artists - including Lucy Ward a BBC radio two folk awards winner and fiddle player Sarah Matthews.
Sarah said: “One of the new songs we will perform is entitled ‘How the Valley did Change’ and is about the changing face of the Derwent Valley, so it is very relevant for us to be playing it in Belper.”
The group’s future plans include a collaboration with Viva Orchestra - the only professional orchestra native to the East Midlands - later in the year.
The concert is open to all ages. Tickets are £6 and are available on the door from 7pm.
