Film festival to screen at Quad
QUAD in Derby will be hosting the Homeless Film Festival On Tour in April.
The first screening, Cathy Come Home, is Ken Loach’s masterpiece, first broadcast as part of the seminal BBC series The Wednesday Play. A landmark play on its original broadcast in 1966, the film still retains its power today. It follows young lovers Cathy and Reg from the start of their married life through the trials and troubles after Reg is made redundant after a work accident. Actor Ray Brooks, who plays Reg, will present a post screening question and answer session. Cathy Come Home (PG) screens on April 1 at 6.30pm.
Comedy drama Adam And Paul (15), showing on April 11 at 6.30pm follows a day in the life of two Dublin heroin addicts as they look up at the world from rock bottom, always searching for money for drugs, either through begging or robbing.
Dark Days (15) from 2000, is a remarkable documentary by director Marc Singer, following the homeless population of New York City, in their ‘homes’ in the underground tunnels in the shadow of Penn Station, next to the Amtrak tracks. Featuring a blistering soundtrack from DJ Shadow, Dark Days screens on April 16 at 6.30pm.
