Talks on parking

Madam,

At this month's full council meeting of Amber Valley the Conservatives withdrew a number of their proposals to increase car parking charges.
These included extending the charges to 10pm and to all day on Sundays and bank holidays.

These proposals would have been opposed by the Labour Group, following the Labour-led defeat of their proposals last month to introduce car parking charges in Codnor, Langley Mill, Somercotes and Swanwick.

Regretfully they were able to get through a removal of the three hours parking band, which means that anyone parking for longer than two hours will face a 26 per cent increase in what they have to pay, something that only the Labour members voted against.

I am interested to see if there is strong support within Heanor for the provision of some free car parking and where that should be.
Therefore, I will be launching a number of consultations within Heanor about this. I would be interested in hearing from your Heanor readers about this.

Cllr Paul Jones
Labour Member for Heanor West Ward, Amber Valley
Borough Council
Fletcher Street, Heanor

Cllr Cliff Roper,

It's nice to see that Cllr Jones is finally coming on board with the BNP proposals made by my colleague Cllr Allsebrook during the debate on parking at the council meeting on 23 July.
