Shock at charges

Madam,

On returning from holiday I was shocked and outraged at your headline 'New Charges Thrown Out' and the article which mentioned proposals to charge for parking in Codnor, Somercotes, Langley Mill and Swanwick.
Where did this 'select' list come from?

There has been no consultation with local members, businesses, residents or the parish councils on these proposals.

When car parking was first introduced the main reason was that shoppers visiting the tow
n centres had nowhere to park due to cars parking all day in the bays, this is certainly not the case in the four villages.

Despite the Conservative-controlled council saying they want to involve the community in their decision making, once again it shows their contempt and paying of 'lip service' over this issue.

People having to pay to park just to collect their newspaper, daily provisions, visit the library, church or Peverel House in Codnor's case would certainly affect the viability of these concerns.

The Conservative candidates in the recent borough elections never mentioned in their leaflets that they wanted to introduce these charges into the villages which are already struggling to keep the shops, restaurants and pubs open.

Perhaps the electorate will have longer memories the next time they cast their votes as this issue will not go away, take my word for it!

Cllr Chris Emmas-Williams
Amber Valley Member for Codnor and Waingroves
Springhill Way
Codnor

Councillor, your hypocrisy is breathtaking.
Either that or we have two Labour parties in this country.
One in government that rips off the motorist with lies about road tax and siphons off huge taxes every time we fill up, and a local one that stands for ...?? Does anyone know?
And for you to attack the Tories when you weren't even at the meeting (along with several other Labour councillors) beggars belief.
I have attended more full council meetings since the election than you have, and I'm just a member of the public!
