Madam,

The new William Gregg VC leisure centre swimming pool is finally open.
I went along on Friday to the over-fifties' swim session, and what a disappointment it was.
I am 60 years old and disabled, and I used to enjoy swimming in the old pool.

What, I think, is wrong with the new pool is listed below, after just one visit.

I wonder how many other things I will find not quite right on subsequent visits?

  • The steps into the pool are not good for the disabled

  • The pool water is too cold

  • The showers too hot

  • A combined male/female changing area is a bad idea

  • There is no division between adult and children's pool

  • There is no music

  • It looks cheap from inside, similar to a lean-to I prefer the old set-up

I knew nothing about the disabled changing as it is not well signed, another swimmer told me after I had changed.

It appears that little thought went into the design of it.
Why were the people who use the pool not consulted in any way about what we would like?

Building a new pool was a great chance to do something really special.
What a pity it didn't happen.
