Madam,

I was interested to hear of the success of the Caribbean carnival in Derby over the weekend and I quote the Chief Inspector of Derbyshire Police Gary Parkin: "It has been a very good atmosphere."
He also said "we are trying to protect the many from the few" following six shootings in Derby since December linked to two rival gangs.

Police officers at the event were armed with automatic weapons.

What is the difference between this festival, the Rock and Blues show at Pentrich and the Red, White and Blue event at Denby?

This sounds very much like double standards to me, if would be nice if Chief Inspector Parkin could give us some answers through these pages please.

It would also be nice to know who paid for all the extra police at the weekend.
