Madam,

I wonder if it is possible through your newspaper to quell any rumours that are circulating in the area that Marehay Miners' Welfare has closed or is due to close.
May I confirm that there is no truth whatsoever that the Marehay Miners Welfare is to close in the foreseeable future and will continue to open seven days a week.

In fact plans are underway hopefully to build a new club on the site to replace the existing club.

Apart from normal facilities such as a lounge and bar areas and a multi purpose function room it is hoped to incorporate a three lane (34 metres long) indoor bowling green on the first floor, giving all year round sporting facilities.

Janet Long
Secretary
