Madam,

Well the wait is finally over; the controversial 'white' lights are on in Ripley. Well some of them are – what bright spark came up with using white lights?
At least with the coloured decorations you could see them, and they brightened Ripley during the festive season.

White lights work great on a dark background, but not when you have street lighting and illuminated shop displays.

The small trees
located all the way down Oxford Street look nice but again these do not stand out as they are obstructed by the street and shop lights. I'm afraid, as a council tax-payer, I can only give five marks out of ten!

The existing trees on the market place are draped with new lights and credit where credit is due, these look stunning and add a nice seasonal touch.

After much protest, old snowman is back waving away, but it would be nice to actually see him, as he is obstructed by the new lighting.
(Is this a ploy to phase him out and not use him next year)?

Now the tree – could someone please explain why we have been given what resembles a large green painted traffic cone?

I see Codnor and Heanor have a nice traditional tree!

What excuses have we this time, health and safety, cutbacks?

Why can't they plant a permanent tree on the Market Place?

It would save on buying new ones every year.

Christmas used to be a time when the lights of Ripley were a talking point and something to be proud of. Bring back the old traditional lights and put some colour back into Ripley.
