Belper is getting set to host one of the most exciting musical events this year as local bands battle it out for a place at a popular up and coming Derbyshire festival.
Five bands, including Black Market Goods, from Belper, and Sable Dawn, from Duffield, will fight it out in the semi-final in the hope of getting one step closer to the top prize, – the chance to perform as the opening act at the Y-Not festival.

Th
e event will be held in Pikehall next month.

The bands, along with other groups from Leicestershire and Wirksworth are competing in one of four heats of the competition's semi-final.

Others have already been held in Matlock, Derby and Chesterfield. Winners from each of the heats will then go on to the final in Wirksworth on July 19.

Steven Murphy, from Peak Promotions, which organised the Battle of the Bands, said: "Black Market Goods have been together for about two and a half years and they're probably the most well known band to come out of Belper.

"It's brilliant that them and Sable Dawn have got this far.

"People are starting to take more of an interest in local bands now people have had success through MySpace."

The event will take place on Sunday, July 6 at Belper Town Football Club at Christchurch Meadow, Bridge Street at 7.30pm.
