NATIONAL Trust property Calke Abbey will be joining in a UK-wide fund raising day on Saturday, July 19.
All proceeds from the event at the Derbyshire venue will be donated to the National Garden Scheme.

It offers young gardeners financial assistance during their gardening ‘careership’, which the scheme hopes will assure the future care of National
Trust gardens.

Visitors to the Calke event will be able to meet the venue’s head gardener, Steve Biggins. He will conduct tours of the gardens during the afternoon to reveal the history of the 18th century glass domed Orangery, the enchanting walled gardens and the intriguing Auricula Theatre.

He said: “We are keen to join in with this national fund raising day. Learning the skill of Heritage Gardening is a real art and one that needs nurturing to guarantee the future care of all National Trust gardens.”

Calke Abbey’s gardens will be open from 11am until 5pm with tours taking place throughout the afternoon. Garden tickets will be required, but no bookings are necessary.

Other East Midlands based National Trust properties taking part in this fund raising event will include Hardwick Hall, Canons Ashby, Clumber Park and Lyveden New Bield.
