Show attracts record numbers in its 28th year

Waingroves Show attracted record numbers of people over the weekend and was blessed by good weather.

Around 200 competitors exhibited over 800 examples of their homegrown produce and handicrafts.

Organiser Peter Maycock said: “A good time was had by all and the sun was shining.”

Entertainment included displays from the Dako Gymnastics Team, Pinxton puppets, singer Darren Lowers and Jay C the Magician.

There was a water wobble game, a fun run which drew over 60 runners and an aerial display by a Spitfire and a Huricane.

Four-year-old Olivia Hill and her little brother Maxwell (pictured) scooped first and third prizes in the junior section of the horticultural show, with the largest sunflower head. The youngsters carried on a family tradition which had been started by their uncle Edward Samuel, who had been a previous winner back in 1993 and 1994.

Their dad, Rob, said: “I’ve been coming to the show since I was a kid. It’s a brilliant atmosphere and this year seemed the busiest and hottest I can remember. It is so nice that the kids get involved in the handy craft and horticulture sections, Olivia and Maxwell absolutely loved it.”
