Meory Lane Royal Observer Corps Ripley 1939

This picture was loaned to up by Geoff Andrews, from Ripley, and shows the Ripley Royal Observer Corps in action in 1939, having been formed the year before. The Corps operated across the country spotting German planes and reporting sightings to Fighter Command during the Second World War.

Mr Andrews, originally from Essex and involved in the Southend-on-Sea Corps, has a large collection of photos, documents and magazines, including many from Derbyshire, and is looking to donate them to a good home - perhaps a local museum. Anyone who can help can contact the News on 0115 9446186.
