Memory Lane - Brian Clough visits Alfreton Library

Jennifer Heyes got in touch with us after spotting a piece in our Looking Back section of Memory Lane about a visit by footballing legend Brian Clough. She recognised the event and sent in this picture showing herself sitting on the former Nottingham Forest and Derby County boss’s knee when he visited Alfreton Library.

Jennifer, who was Jennifer Dawes then, from Lilley Close, Selston, says she was seven at the time and is now 37. She was a pupil at Ironville Primary School, which had won a group prize in a competition which urged children to give their views on ways to combat vandalism. She says she remembers ‘old big ed’ was charming.
