High Tor view

this picture of Matlock from High Tor featured on a postcard sent from a holiday maker.

The recipient was a Miss Betty Burns, of Yorkshire.

The message on the card reads: “Auntie Maud and Uncle Bob wish you were here to see the lovely fields and hills, which we have spent out holidays amongst.

“Hoping you all well.”

The postcard was sent using two halfpenny stamps featuring a picture of King George VI on it.

Although no date is printed on the postcard, the image shows a Matlock very much in its infancy, where the Smedley’s Hydro, in Smedley Street, still dominates the skyline with nothing but fields beneath it, instead of houses.
