Motorists have been facing severe delays on the M1 near to junction 25 following a serious crash earlier today.

It happened just before noon and involved two lorries, one car and a van on the northbound side of the motorway. The lorry crashed into the central reservation.

One person was trapped in the car and had to be cut free by fire crews.

Drivers were warned to expect delays between junction 25 and 26 on the northbound side.

One motorist, who works at East Midlands Airport and lives in Horlsey Woodhouse, said the crash also caused delays around Derby as he headed home at 4.10pm today.

He said: “The traffic was really bad and caused lots of problems on roads around the motorway as well. It was also slow on the soundbound side as people slowed down to look at the crash.”
