A frustrated family say they are fed up of the sight of an abandoned van outside their home – after it was dumped there back in March.
The Ford Transit broke down in the early hours of Saturday March, 31 by the side of Horsley Road in Kilburn.
The owners of the vehicle were spotted attempting to fix its spluttering engine before giving up, fleeing and never returning.
But civil servant Emma Alldread says attempts to get the vehicle removed have failed as both police and Amber Valley Borough Council say they are powerless to do so .
She said: “It affects five houses here.
The thing is this is a 40mph road – we are having to pull off the drive and we can’t see down the road because the van is blocking the view.
“We have all had near misses.”
Police say they could have moved the van if it was deemed to have been parked illegally or to be causing an obstruction to a driveway or entrance, but officers felt it was neither.
A spokesperson for the force said it has no power to move the vehicle, which is not insured to Emma’s knowledge, until the road tax runs out at the end of the month, and have placed ‘police aware’ stickers on it.
But Emma, 36, who lives on Horsley Road with husband Steve and two children, believes the van is causing an obstruction and is frustrated that an uninsured vehicle cannot be towed away
She said: “The van is parked half on the pavement –I think that it’s causing an obstruction, but the police didn’t.”
Amber Valley Borough Council says it cannot make contact with the owner until the tax runs out.
