Historic digs converted to new homes

A £350,000 conversion of a historic residential block of flats has started in Ripley.

Futures Housing Group is working with Amber Valley Borough Council to regenerate flats at 10 Booth Street.

Booth Street was formerly six flats and the conversion will provide six modern one-bedroom, two-person apartments, with new heating, electrics and insulation. The building was once used as digs for railway workers and miners in the early 1900’s and has a place in local history.

Dyane Pike, Development Officer at Futures Housing Group, said of the new development: “We have had positive comments from local people who are looking forward to a building that has been out of action for three years being brought back into use. By offering modern living spaces, the apartments will help revitalize the local area as well as help meet the demand for new affordable housing.”

The work is due to be complete in January 2013.
