Group grants up for grabs
Community groups or residents’ organisations in the Ilkeston North area could be granted a cash boost towards projects that help improve the area and life for local people.
The area will receive £50,865 from 2011-2015 under the new Community First initiative, an £80m Government-funded scheme to support and help regenerate communities across the country.
Erewash Borough Council is represented alongside residents, a community group and a business on the Ilkeston North Community First Panel, which has been set up to co-ordinate bids - and now local groups are being encouraged to apply for between £250 and £2,500 before the July 17 deadline for the latest round of grants.
Cllr Carol Hart, Erewash Borough Council’s deputy leader and lead member for community engagement, said: “I am sure this new opportunity for grants will be warmly welcomed by everyone in the Ilkeston North area.
“ Community groups in this ward work hard to provide some excellent support projects for local people – but we also know that securing funding for this work is a constant battle.
“I would urge groups to find out more by visiting the new website and downloading an application form – and get in touch before the deadline.”
