GCSE teens face job gloom
Teenagers picking up their GCSE grades in Amber Valley will have far few job prospects than in other parts of the country, a new study shows.
Young people in parts of the county have witnessed the most dramatic changes to their job prospects while at secondary school than any group for over 70 years.
Figures shows the rate of young jobseekers in Amber Valley has almost doubled over the last five years from 3.3 per cent to 6.5 per cent.
The rise places Amber Valley number 85 out of 380 local authorities who have seen the highest rise in jobseekers.
In Chesterfield the number of 16 to 24-year-olds not in education or work has risen from 5.0 per cent in 2007 to 8.7 per cent in July 2012.

NE Derbyshire saw the rate of young jobseeker’s allowance claimants almost double from 3.3 per cent to 6.4 per cent over the last five years, placing it 92nd in the country’s ranking. In Bolsover the number of young people out of work rose from 4.7 per cent to 7.4 per cent.
The study has been published by education specialists Ambitious Minds.
