Care home plan given go ahead

PLANS for a 66-bed care home at the site of a fomer pub has been given the green light by councillors.

Permission was granted for work to go ahead at the old Bridge Inn on Awsworth Road.

At the meeting, members of the planning committee argued over the appearance of the modern-looking care home.

Cllr Kevin Miller, said: “While I mourn the loss of another pub I’ve got to admire a nice building of good design and I might be needing it more than a pub soon.”

But Cllr Margaret Griffiths compared rooms in the development to ‘cells.’

She added: “You’d have to take me in their feet first. It’s awful looking.”

The two- and three-storey design will overlook the canal.

Plans also included eighteen car parking spaces and access from Awsworth Road.
