Park party fund boost

MORE than 100 sponsored walkers have raised money for Alfreton Party in The Park through a ten-mile countryside hike on Sunday.

The event also aimed to raise funds for the yearly Party in the Park’s associated charities, which include the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The walkers started at 11am at The Waggon and Horses pub, on King Street, in the town.

The route took the hikers past Shirland Golf Course, Ogston Reservoir and followed in line with the path of the last narrow gauge railway in England known as the Ashover Light Railway.

Tired trekkers were then entertained in the picturesque north east Derbyshire village by former Wishbone Ash guitarist Ray Hatfield at the Black Swan pub there, before being bought back by coach. Early estimates suggest the walk raised over £2,000 for Party in the Park with £800 for individual charities.
