Child of the Year competition is open!
THE RIPLEY and Heanor News launches its Child of the Year 2012 competition this week.
You can enter your child or children into the competition by coming along to our open photoshoots from May 4 to 7 at Ripley Leisure Centre from 10am to 4pm each day. It costs nothing to enter and all photographs entered in the competition will appear in a special supplement to be published in the Ripley and Heanor News on May 24.
There are three age categories, and the three winners from each category and their parents will be invited to our office in Grosvenor Road to collect their prizes - large black and white framed prints. Last year, the winning families were bowled over with their prizes, which they said would take pride of place in their homes.
Keavy Wood, from Chestnut Road, Langley Mill, won the nought to 12 months category.
Dylan Charlton, of Cromford Road, Langley Mill, was the winner in the 13 to 24 months section and Kennley Jane Hague, of Bolton Close, Langley Mill, was the winner in the 25 to 36 months section. They were crowned the 2011 winners after polling the most votes among readers after, beating dozens of other youngsters to the titles.
Keavy’s mother Hayley Moss, from Chestnut Road, in Langley Mill, said: “I couldn’t believe she won. All the children in the competition were just so beautiful, but I thought she had a chance of winning.”
Proud full-time mum Hayley said she will be entering her daughter into the competition next year.
Our Child of the Year competition is an annual event and is always hugely popular. Our winners’ parents were all bowled over when they were informed they had won. Ripley and Heanor News editor Julie Crouch said: “It never ceases to amaze me how lovely all our entrants in the competition are.
“If I had to chose the winners I would struggle so I’m glad they are chosen by our readers.
“It was my pleasure to meet our three Child of the Year youngsters and their families this week.
“They deserve their titles and their winning prints will be something for their families to cherish.
“Well done to all of them!
“We are looking forward to receiving entries for the Child of the Year Competition 2012.”
In all 139 beaming tots were entered into the 2011 contest. Parents piled into our photography booth set up at the Asda store, in Langley Mill, during April and May, and we received hundreds of votes for your favourite tots.
