All aboard for the Ripley Rail Ale festival!

The third Amber Valley Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Rail Ale Festival starts tonight at Butterley Station, until Sunday, September 30.

There will be over 100 lip smacking real ales, ciders, perries, fruit wines and food at the event, which in just two years, has built up a reputation as a “must visit” festival.

This year, in addition to special festival brews, some newer breweries that will be unfamiliar to many, will feature alongside a wealth of great music.

CAMRA publicity officer Paul Gibson said: “Flash, the Queen tribute band, will headline on the Saturday night.

“Flash have built up a formidable reputation in their replication of the extensive Queen catalogue, which includes the classic Bohemian Rhapsody.

“Supporting Flash on Saturday in the marquee will be the Fab 2 who pay homage to the Fab Four (The Beatles).

“The sublime music of the 20th Century’s pre-eminent band requires no comment. “

All Fired Up and Whiskey Bob Shaker get proceedings underway on Thursday evening, and Friday sees the Pesky Alligators supporting Jalapenos, the rock n’ rollers who boast of not one, but three front men!

The perennially popular tradition of Morris Men dancing will be to the fore on Saturday afternoon, and for those who just want a quiet pint, two railway carriages will house some of the many fine beers on offer.

The Ripley Rail Ale Festival was launched at the Black Bulls Head, in Openwoodgate, last week by the Mayor and Mayoress of Amber Valley. Steam trains will be running during Saturday and Sunday daytime.

Paul added: “The Trent Barton nines bus service conveniently goes direct from Derby to just outside the festival site.”
