FIRE eaters, stilt walkers and live music were just some of the fun activities that delighted crowds at Ripley's annual Christmas light switch on.
The event on Friday saw the Mayor of the town Charles Cutting turning the lights on and wishing the hundreds who attended a merry Christmas, followed by a carol service and late night shopping.
Cllr Cutting said: "The event was successful because Amber FM were there doing a live broadcast which attracted a younger crowd. The fire eaters were absolutely excellent, the tree looked elegant and we had a good turnout.
"Children from St John's School sang and everyone was able to begin their late night shopping."

Monday evening was the switching on of Heanor's lights and despite an attack on the tree over the weekend the event ran smoothly.
Visitors enjoyed stalls, fair rides, late night shopping and entertainment from the Pinxton puppets, an organ grinder and carol singers.
Town Mayor Paul Jones did the honours of turning the lights on and crowds enjoyed a stunning firework display and performance by the Heanor Operatic Society as well as Ilkeston brass band.
Cllr Jones said: "The day was a great success and very popular, with thousands of people turning up throughout the duration of the evening. It was very pleasing to see."
