Rocking Belper band The Sandmen play their first gig in the town tomorrow (Thursday) at The White Swan pub in The Market Place.
Formed in March 2008, The Sandmen play a mix of rhythm and blues, rock'n'roll and blues.

Their debut gig in Derby in November went down a storm, delighting fans of rhythm and blues music eager to see this talented, experienced and respected group of musicians rock it up on stage.

They made a brief appearance in Belper recently as part of the Battle of the Bands at Hacketts Bar, but this gig is their first proper showcase in the town.

Gravel-voiced singer and blues harp player Paul Mirkellian was part of Blues Basement, the well-established local r 'n' b band with two CDs and a string of successful gigs to their credit.

Guitarist and vocalist John Kemp was one of the founder members of ZZ Birmingham's Blues Band and his blistering guitar solos were a feature of the band for over 14 years.

The line-up is completed by bass player Sandy Raynor. Classically trained on the violin before discovering her passion for rock music, Sandy is a well-known face on the Derby music scene and has featured as special guest with ZZ Birmingham.

Drummer Nick Phillips brings years of experience and expertise, together with a love of fifties and sixties music styles.
Paul Mirkellian said: "We've got a fabulous set of songs, from the obscure to the familiar, and believe our rocking style will get people up and dancing before they even consider their first drink!

"We're really looking forward to showing our home crowd what we can do."

Admission is free, with music getting under way from 9pm.
