A toad escaped a watery end earlier this month when he became stuck fast in the handle of a watering can.
RSPCA inspector Mick Darling was about to clean his van on his day off in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

When he filled the can he saw something moving and, upon emptying the water, he saw the toad's legs sticking out of the hollow handle inside the can.

The amphibian had managed to squeeze himself so far into the handle that he had to be cut out.

In a rescue mission which saw the demise of the watering can and the use of two saws and two sets of pliers, Mick managed to free the toad who hopped off back into the garden unharmed.

Mick said: "It wasn't easy to free the toad and I was worried I'd hurt him. It was good to see him hop away eventually, although it wasn't such a happy ending for my watering can!"
